Community Projects
Community Projects are an opportunity for Guild members to give something back to their community. Listed below are our current projects and those we have participated in in the past.
Comfort Quilts
This is an ongoing community project for Holly Berry Quilters' Guild members. Wouldn't it be great if each member created and donated one comfort quilt. It doesn't have to be large. It can be a twin size, lap size, crib size or even a bassinet size quilt. While you can make a larger quilt if you wish, we understand that a larger quilt could be costly to make and time consuming. Quilts will be donated to various children's organizations, nursing homes and veteran's organizations.
Draw String Pillow Cases for Katelyn's Closet (stays on the Cape).
“Katelynn's Closet is a 501c3 non-profit group that provides new and gently used clothing and basics to children on the Cape and Islands who are in need, and who are ages 4-18. Katelynn's closet helps children in need to maintain their dignity and self-esteem by providing them with stylish, clean, clothing that fits their needs and style preferences. Katelynn's Closet is distribution based. That means that we partner with existing social service agents (e.g, school nurses, social workers, church workers, and foster parents) who identify the child in need. They e-mail us or fill out our online form with the child's initials, age, size, gender, style preferences, and any special request items such as a winter jacket or shoes. Katelynn's Closet then provides that social service agent with a package containing a weeks worth of clothing. That agent then delivers the clothing to the child in need. At no time do we assess need, nor do we know the identity of the child in need.
They have reached out to those of us who sew and requested that we create and donate draw string pillow cases to be used as containers the clothing they provide the children.
For our guild, its all about the kids feeling good and apparently since they started this last summer, the kids really like getting the clothes in a cloth bag, instead of a plastic garbage bag. .
Draw String Pillow Case Pattern
Throughout our quilting year we are open to suggestions for other charitable endeavors.
Other projects we have participated in in the past:
Walker Totes for Nursing Homes
Pillowcase Dresses for African girls
Comfort Quilts
Place Mats for Nursing Homes at Christmastime
Adult Bibs
Fleece Blankets for Indian Reservation
Preemie quilts for hospitals for infants to go home with.
